ForeScout to Enforce Access and Endpoint Compliance Policies Agency-wide

November 2012 by Marc Jacob

ForeScout Technologies, Inc., a provider of automated security control solutions for Fortune 1000 enterprises and government organisations, announced that the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), a component of the U.S. Department of Justice, has selected ForeScout to monitor and enforce network access control (NAC) and endpoint compliance policies. The agreement was managed by Patriot Technologies, a solution partner of ForeScout. The EOUSA will use ForeScout CounterACT appliances in its United States Attorneys’ offices nationwide.

EOUSA chose ForeScout CounterACT to advance network access policies across multiple sites, achieve greater endpoint visibility and control without requiring agents and reduce total cost of ownership.

“Civilian and defence agencies are required to safeguard all access provisions and assure that devices connecting to network enclaves meet and maintain host-based security system standards,” said Bruce Tucker, president of Patriot Technologies. “ForeScout CounterACT is among the leading network security platforms that we recommend to Federal organisations seeking to rapidly and cost-effectively support network access and continuous endpoint security requirements.”

ForeScout’s award-winning CounterACT solution provides real-time visibility and automated control for all devices accessing network resources – leveraging an organisation’s existing network and security infrastructure. Not only does ForeScout support both 802.1x and non-802.1x/agentless approaches to enforce port control and trusted network access, it also offers a wealth of integrated features, extensible controls and centralised management to enable enterprise-wide deployment and scale-out.

“Agencies that seek to progress their access enforcement and continuous monitoring programs must consider usability, interoperability and automation as key factors affecting deployment success and total cost of ownership,” said Niels Jenson, vice president of federal sales at ForeScout. “We welcome other progressive agencies, like the U. S. Department of Justice, to move to ForeScout to advance port control requisites and endpoint compliance objectives.”

ForeScout CounterACT has achieved the industry’s highest level of security certification for a NAC solution involving assurances from the EAL 4+level. The certification provides ForeScout’s government and other clients with high confidence in the implementation of security mechanisms in CounterACT. Beyond network access control, CounterACT integrates guest networking, mobile security endpoint compliance, rich host-based security system (HBSS) remediation, and security information event management (SIEM) support to provide “continuous monitoring and remediation” capabilities. The combination of functionality and proven-scalability facilitates federal and military organisations’ efforts to quickly effectuate controls within the security technical implementation guide (STIG) and information assurance vulnerability alert (IAVA) compliance frameworks.

ForeScout welcomes federal agencies and their contractors to evaluate CounterACT and see first hand, like the Executive Office for the United States Attorneys, the CounterACT difference. As illustrated by a recent, in-depth competitive Tolly Group assessment of NAC products, ForeScout CounterACT provides superior usability, deployment, interoperability, functionality, management and scale.
