SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can measure the loading time to deduce a WordPress
Core user hash, in order to spoof this user.
Impacted products: WordPress Core.
Severity: 1/4.
Creation date: 17/08/2016.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The WordPress product is a web CMS with user spaces.
This CMS stores the password hash to be used in the identification
phase. However, the hash is checked with the ’==’ operator in the
wp-admin/options.php page. This operator has a processing time
depending on the target hash.
An attacker can therefore measure the loading time to deduce a
WordPress Core user hash, in order to spoof this user.
