Vigil@nce - FreeBSD: information disclosure via Linux TIOCGSERIAL

June 2016 by Vigil@nce

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

A local attacker can read a memory fragment via Linux TIOCGSERIAL
on FreeBSD, in order to obtain sensitive information.

Impacted products: FreeBSD.

Severity: 1/4.

Creation date: 01/06/2016.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The FreeBSD product offers a Linux compatibility layer.

However, the linux_ioctl.c/linux_misc.c file does not initialize a
memory area before returning it to the user.

A local attacker can therefore read a memory fragment via Linux
TIOCGSERIAL on FreeBSD, in order to obtain sensitive information.
