This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can send a DNS packet to generate an infinite loop via
RESOLV::lookup of F5 BIG-IP, in order to trigger a denial of
service.
Impacted products: BIG-IP Hardware, TMOS.
Severity: 2/4.
Creation date: 31/08/2016.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The F5 BIG-IP product can be configured with an "RESOLV::lookup"
iRule to resolve PTR DNS records.
However, a malicious DNS reply can trigger an excessive amount of
resources, or stop the Traffic Management Microkernel .
An attacker can therefore send a DNS packet to generate an
infinite loop via RESOLV::lookup of F5 BIG-IP, in order to trigger
a denial of service.
