Sandvine receives over $4.5 Million in follows-on Orders

December 2012 by Marc Jacob

Sandvine, a provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced that it has received Network Policy Control orders from two Western European mobile operators, totaling over $4.5 million. The orders expand existing Sandvine deployments that enable “bill shock” notification and differentiated subscriber services.

The customers are part of a multinational operator group with properties in Europe and Latin America. Sandvine expects to recognize the majority of related revenues in the first half of 2013.

Tom Donnelly, COO, Sales and Global Services, Sandvine, said, “Sandvine’s products are helping these two mobile customers develop new revenue streams through services that capitalize on data growth while maintaining high-touch communications with their subscribers.”

Protecting subscribers with safeguards from unexpected charges, or “bill shock”, creates a safe environment for them to test the latest apps and rich media services, driving demand for data and smart phone adoption. Sandvine’s 2012 Global Internet Phenomena report identified YouTube as a top driver of mobile data, accounting for more than 20% of peak period downstream traffic on European mobile devices.

Scaling to meet the demand, operators are rolling out new services using Sandvine’s Usage Management product, built to plug-and-play with 3GPP standards and to reduce the lag between capital spending and service revenue. Usage Management tailors data plans that go beyond basic quota-based services to include service packages such as unlimited email, web browsing, social networking, device-based plans and unlimited smartphone tethering, as just a few examples.
