NCSC hackers for hire comment: air tight strategy required to keep businesses safe

April 2023 by Jonathan Bridges, Chief Innovation Officer at Exponential-e

In response to the new report from NCSC that identifies the concerning rise of ‘hackers for hire’, the comment from Jonathan Bridges, Chief Innovation Office at Exponential-e.

“Cyber apathy and inadequate security in business are trends that are becoming all too familiar and have enabled a breeding ground for opportunistic attackers who realise they can generate significant income from their skills. Now, the rise of ‘hackers for hire’ is one of the most pressing threats to information security in business today.

“An already lucrative business model, the ability to hire cyber talent to conduct reconnaissance and run attacks will only broaden the risk to organisations as even attackers with limited technology expertise have the ability to bring in specialist expertise and capabilities to increase their chances of success.

“Our hope is that the NCSC’s report will further highlight how essential an air-tight security strategy is. The threat is only becoming more sophisticated and, as the report demonstrates, it isn’t showing signs of slowing any time soon.”
