Yangquan Coal Industry Group optimizes communications with NGN

April 2008 by Marc Jacob

Yangquan Coal Industry (Group) Co., Ltd, a large state-owned coal enterprise in China, has selected Nokia Siemens Networks as its major supplier to migrate its traditional fixed network to a Next Generation Network (NGN) Solution that will provide the company with new, converged voice and data applications and multi-media services. Nokia Siemens Networks’ solution will allow Yangquan to introduce these new communication services quickly and cost effectively.

The decision to upgrade was prompted by the inefficiency of Yangquan Coal Industry Group’s current company-wide network, which required support for two different PSTN switches. The NGN solution from Nokia Siemens Networks will optimize the company’s existing fixed network by replacing the legacy switches, provide an increased number of flexible access nodes, and implement an Integrated Access Device (IAD), a customer-hosted device that acts as a media gateway for accessing an IP network that will enable Yangquan Coal Industry Group to efficiently scale up to the number of users.

As the first step, Yangquan Coal Industry Group will deploy Nokia Siemens Networks’ hiE9200 softswitch, the Trunk Gateway hiG1100, the Access Gateway Controller hiG1600, IAD and Digital Line Unit (DLU), which connects analog and PBX phones, in order to replace Yangquan’s existing access equipments. The company will simultaneously launch a SIP-based Application Server to offer VoIP-based voice & data converged service and multimedia applications such as video phone, color ring back tone, voice mailbox and soft SIP-phone.
