‘Working from home’ reaches a new dimension as 35% of people admit that they or their partner work in bed

April 2012 by Infosecurity Europe

Infosecurity Europe has revealed the results of its latest street survey which uncovered the vast amount of time people spend working in bed. With 35% of people saying that they or their partners work from bed, it is unsurprising that people complain they don’t feel work ever stops. In fact, 5% of people who say they do work from bed, admit to averaging two hours a day! Of those admitting that they worked in bed, nearly three quarters (73%) were men The survey was commissioned by Infosecurity Europe in the run up to the 2012 event taking place from the 24th – 26th April 2012, in Earls Court, London www.infosec.co.uk.

Claire Sellick, Event Director for Infosecurity Europe said, “Mobile devices and laptops have delivered great freedom by enabling people to work when they are out of the office or on the move – but surely the fact that so many people are now working from bed is just going too far!

“But on the darker side, this survey reveals the scale of the problem for IT security departments who have to secure sensitive communications or transactions, wherever they are being made. Of people who work from a mobile device, more than 1 in 4 admitted they don’t use strong security – so they are leaving themselves vulnerable to security breaches,” she continued.

When surveyed, Tim Howard, 37, said “I check and send emails before I go to sleep and when I wake up in the morning – I try not to spend too much time on it, but when you work with people all around the world, it is difficult to avoid.” He isn’t alone – of those people who said they do work from bed, 30% say they do an hour or more a day – which quickly adds up over the course of a week or month!

Infosecurity Europe commissioned a street survey of 1,000 people conducted in London 26-30 March 2012. For more on the Infosecurity Europe show please visit http://www.infosec.co.uk. To download the Infosecurity Europe app for your mobile device please visit www.infosec.co.uk/app
