Which? IT Team Drives Cost Savings and Maximises Network Security Using Kaseya® IT Automation Platform™

February 2010 by Kaseya

Consumer champion Which? is driving cost savings and efficiencies within its IT department by deploying the Kaseya IT Automation™ platform to centralise and simplify the delivery of IT services for over 600 PCs and laptops for office-based staff and remote workers. Using the platform’s single, web-based interface, the Which? IT team of seven is able to control the entire network remotely, from one location. This has reduced the roll-out time for patches and upgrades by over 90 per cent.

Prior to the Kaseya deployment, Which? relied on a manual repair and update model, whereby every fix or update had to be carried out by an engineer individually on each machine and software upgrades and roll-outs would typically have taken six people a weekend. The process is now done remotely using centralised IT systems management and can be carried out by one person in less than half a day, which has reduced both overtime and travel costs.

As well as speeding up system updates using the Kaseya IT Automation platform, Which? has made further time savings by setting up a number of automated tasks and processes to run automatically across the network, including patch management. This ensures exposure to security threats is minimised as updates and patches are rolled-out as they are required, simultaneously. The IT team is also using the Kaseya platform to manage devices that sit outside of the main office network, to guarantee the security of home PCs and laptops used by Which? remote workers.

Andy Burge, Head of IT at Which?, says: “Our IT team was under significant pressure to support a geographically dispersed IT estate and an increasing number of remote workers, as updating and managing every device required desk-side visits. Using the Kaseya platform we can manage every endpoint remotely to deliver a better level of service to the organisation and through automated processes we have freed up the workload of our IT team so they can focus on more strategic areas.”

Phil Sansom, VP EMEA Sales, Kaseya, comments: “With most IT departments now having to deliver more for less while still meeting strict security and compliance requirements, opting to centralise the management of IT assets can be a vital move for businesses. Deploying an IT automation platform dramatically cuts down the time taken to undertake repairs and updates, leaving engineers with more time to focus on additional tasks.”
