Vigil@nce - mesa: buffer overflow via shader
June 2013 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can generate a buffer overflow in the mesa library, in
order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.
Impacted products: Debian, RHEL
Severity: 2/4
Creation date: 10/06/2013
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The mesa library is an implementation of the OpenGL specifications.
The function fs_visitor::remove_dead_constants() in the file
mesa/drivers/dri/i965/brw_fs.cpp is used for video devices used
with the chipset i915. However, if the size of data is greater
than the size of the storage array, an overflow occurs.
An attacker can therefore generate a buffer overflow in the mesa
library, in order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to
execute code.
