Vigil@nce: Zope, HTTP injection

November 2008 by Vigil@nce

SYNTHESIS

An attacker can inject HTTP data in a Zope session.

Gravity: 2/4

Consequences: data flow

Provenance: user account

Means of attack: no proof of concept, no attack

Ability of attacker: expert (4/4)

Confidence: confirmed by the editor (5/5)

Diffusion of the vulnerable configuration: high (3/3)

Creation date: 27/10/2008

IMPACTED PRODUCTS

 Zope

DESCRIPTION

The HTTP protocol uses a line feed:
 between each header, and
between the end of headers and the beginning of data

A HTTP header cannot contain a line feed (CRLF or "\r\n").
However, Zope does not correctly filter user data and generates
HTTP replies with headers containing a line feed. This error thus
interferes the HTTP protocol analysis by proxies or web browsers.

An attacker can therefore for example inject additional data in a
HTTP stream.
