Vigil@nce - Xen: use after free via xc_cpupool_getinfo
February 2014 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An authenticated attacker can use a freed memory area in a
multithreaded toolstack of Xen, in order to trigger a denial of
service, and possibly to execute code.
Impacted products: Unix (platform)
Severity: 2/4
Creation date: 12/02/2014
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The xc_cpupool_getinfo() function returns information on CPUs.
However, if the system is low in free memory, the
xc_cpumap_alloc() function fails, and xc_cpupool_getinfo() returns
a freed memory area.
An authenticated attacker can therefore use a freed memory area in
a multithreaded toolstack of Xen, in order to trigger a denial of
service, and possibly to execute code.
