DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can use two vulnerabilities of PHP, in order to access
to a file.
The posix_mkfifo() function creates a special file of type "named
pipe". This function does not check the open_basedir configuration
directive. An attacker can therefore create a file outside the web
site. [grav:1/4; BID-36554]
The tempnam() function creates a temporary file with a random name
like "indicated_prefix.random". However, if the attacker uses the
"file.php" prefix, the "file.php.random" file is created. This
file does not have a valid extension, but as it contains ".php",
it can be interpreted as PHP. [grav:1/4; BID-36555]
These vulnerabilities are local or remote depending on the context.
