Vigil@nce - PHP: buffer overflow of imagecrop
February 2014 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker, who can transmit parameters to the imagecrop()
function, can generate a buffer overflow of PHP, in order to
trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.
Impacted products: MBS, PHP
Severity: 2/4
Creation date: 13/02/2014
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
Since PHP 5.5.0, the imagecrop() function is used to cut an image,
using for example the following dimensions:
$dimensions = array("x" => 10, "y" => 10, "width" => 50,
"height" => 50);
However, if the position ("x") of the rectangle to cut is greater
than the size of the image, an overflow occurs.
An attacker, who can transmit parameters to the imagecrop()
function, can therefore generate a buffer overflow of PHP, in
order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.
