DESCRIPTION
The DATA DIRECTORY and INDEX DIRECTORY options indicates paths
where data and index files of a table are located. An attacker can
use them to access to tables with the same name. This
vulnerability has the reference CVE-2008-2079 (VIGILANCE-VUL-7804
(https://vigilance.aql.fr/tree/1/7804), VIGILANCE-VUL-7803
(https://vigilance.aql.fr/tree/1/7803), VIGILANCE-VUL-7802
(https://vigilance.aql.fr/tree/1/7802)).
This vulnerability was corrected. However, patches were incorrect:
– the official patch can be bypassed using symbolic links
(CVE-2008-4098)
– the Debian patch can be by passed by changing the path
(CVE-2008-4097)
A local attacker can thus still use DATA DIRECTORY and INDEX
DIRECTORY to alter database tables.
