Vigil@nce - Linux kernel: information disclosure via rtnl_fill_link_ifmap
May 2016 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
A local attacker can read a memory fragment via
rtnl_fill_link_ifmap on the Linux kernel, in order to obtain
sensitive information.
– Impacted products: Fedora, Linux.
– Severity: 1/4.
– Creation date: 09/05/2016.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The Linux kernel implements rtnetlink (Linux IPv4 routing socket).
However, the rtnl_fill_link_ifmap() function of the
net/core/rtnetlink.c file does not initialize a memory area before
returning it to the user.
A local attacker can therefore read a memory fragment via
rtnl_fill_link_ifmap on the Linux kernel, in order to obtain
sensitive information.
