Vigil@nce - Linux kernel: information disclosure via llc_cmsg_rcv
May 2016 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
A local attacker can read a memory fragment via llc_cmsg_rcv() on
the Linux kernel, in order to obtain sensitive information.
Impacted products: Fedora, Linux.
Severity: 1/4.
Creation date: 09/05/2016.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The Linux kernel implements the LLC (Logical Link Control) network
layer.
However, the llc_cmsg_rcv() function of the net/llc/af_llc.c file
does not initialize a memory area before returning it to the user.
A local attacker can therefore read a memory fragment via
llc_cmsg_rcv() on the Linux kernel, in order to obtain sensitive
information.
