March 2016 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

A local attacker can use a futex on the Linux Compatibility Layer
of FreeBSD, in order to escalate his privileges.

Impacted products: FreeBSD.

Severity: 2/4.

Creation date: 14/01/2016.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The FreeBSD product implements a module to execute Linux
applications.

However, a local attacker can manipulate a linux_robust_list_head
structure via a futex, to corrupt the memory.

A local attacker can therefore use a futex on the Linux
Compatibility Layer of FreeBSD, in order to escalate his
privileges.
