Vigil@nce - F5 BIG-IP: denial of service via URL rewrite

August 2016 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can send non HTML web content including URLs to F5
BIG-IP, in order to trigger a denial of service.

Impacted products: BIG-IP Hardware, TMOS.

Severity: 2/4.

Creation date: 31/05/2016.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The F5 BIG-IP may be configured to translate URLs in Web content.

However, when the product is configured to process non HTML
content and actually receives the type of content, a fatal error
occurs and the whole system reboots.

An attacker can therefore send non HTML web content including URLs
to F5 BIG-IP, in order to trigger a denial of service.
