Vigil@nce - D-Bus : file corruption during the installation
juin 2011 par Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
When the administrator installs D-Bus, a local attacker can create
a symbolic link, in order to corrupt the file.
Severity : 1/4
Creation date : 24/06/2011
IMPACTED PRODUCTS
– Unix - plateform
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The D-Bus service is used by applications to communicate via
messages sent on a bus.
The administrator runs the "./configure" script, in order to
install D-Bus. The cc_supports_flag() function of this script
detects flags supported by the gcc compiler. In order to do so, it
creates a temporary C file and compiles it. However, this
temporary file has a predictable name (/tmp/foo$PID) and it is
located in a publicly writable directory.
When the administrator installs D-Bus, a local attacker can
therefore create a symbolic link, in order to corrupt the file.
