Vigil@nce - Cisco IOS XR: memory leak via SNMP

June 2013 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can send SNMP packets to Cisco IOS XR, to create a
memory leak, in order to trigger a denial of service.

Impacted products: IOS XR

Severity: 2/4

Creation date: 23/05/2013

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The SNMP service uses the port 162/udp to manage Trap and
InformRequest messages.

However, if one of these messages is malformed, Cisco IOS XR does
not free an allocated memory area.

An attacker can therefore send SNMP packets to Cisco IOS XR, to
create a memory leak, in order to trigger a denial of service.
