Vigil@nce - Cisco ASR 5500: denial of service via BGP

December 2015 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

A remote and unauthenticated attacker can forge BGP packets for
Cisco ASR 5500, in order to trigger a denial of service.

Impacted products: Cisco ASR.

Severity: 2/4.

Creation date: 29/10/2015.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The Cisco ASR product offers a BGP implementation for route
learning.

However, a lack of control of headers forces a restart of the BGP
process.

A remote and unauthenticated attacker can therefore forge BGP
packets for Cisco ASR 5500, in order to trigger a denial of
service.
