TrustPort survey: Users agree with anything written in online agreements

The TrustPort company, a producer of antivirus software and applications for mobile platforms, is announcing the results of a worldwide survey, which looked into PC and mobile users‘ habits, vices and opinions related to their online security. The survey has been taking place between users of antivirus solutions for one year in 30 countries worldwide. More than half of those questioned were in the age ranging from 20 to 33 years. The results of the public opinion polls were processed by TrustPort specialists into a clearly arranged infographic, which presents brand new findings about security habits of PC and mobile users nowadays.
“It was surprising for us that only 10 per cent of users installing new software into their PC or smartphone read End-User License Agreements (EULA) or a list of required permissions, which are a part of every installation. The agreement could include very important information such as a personal data protection policy and privacy policy in general, or it can even impose disadvantaging conditions on users,“ says Pavel Mrnustik, CEO at TrustPort. “The survey also showed that the majority of mobile users would not mind using a product, which sends files to the cloud without user’s knowledge or without even asking for permission“, adds Pavel Mrnustik.
On the other hand, users were more critical about “the digital home“ concept, which enables the building of an automatic system that integrates the electrical devices in your house with each other and thus living in a remote-controlled home. This idea is close to the hearts of the respondents, but all of them also agreed that security of this concept needs to be increased.
As far as smartphone security is concerned, the absolute majority of users 79 per cent, are satisfied and convinced that smartphones are secure enough. 18 per cent of those questioned think that smartphones are not secure enough and only three per cent of them consider smartphones dangerous.
According to the survey, the future of security solutions rests on hybrid security solutions which combine device-based software and in-the-cloud solutions. Users still rely on AV software locally installed on the device, but they want to benefit from the advantages of cloud solutions at the same time.
