The future of Biometric authentication in Business
May 2016 by Per Stitch, VP of EMEA at OneLogin
Biometric technologies such as fingerprints, voice, facial, iris and heartbeat
recognition have attracted a lot of attention here in the UK for some time now and
has gained traction as a primary form of authentication to protect devices, apps and
data. Biometric authentication first saw success within the consumer arena. The
classic example is one many of us use today - fingerprint authentication on our
smartphones for online banking. However, when it comes to the corporate environment,
Biometric authentication has a long way to go in order to catch up to the level of
adoption seen within the consumer realm today.
Whilst convenient, very few people realise the potential flaws behind the use of
methods such as Fingerprints, which can be a big cause of concern for organisations
looking to include the technology as an additional layer of multi-factor
authentication (MFA).
In order for methods of Biometrics authentication to become apart of the way we work
today; Per Stitch, VP of EMEA at OneLogin takes a look at the flaws of Biometric
methods and takes an in-depth look at how Biometrics can be used as an additional
method of authentication within a wider Identity and Access Management (IAM)
strategy for organisations.
