Systar’s OmniVision to Provide Enhanced Support for PowerVM™ Environments

May 2009 by Marc Jacob

Systar announced enhancements to OmniVision, its award-winning capacity management software, to fully account for advanced PowerVM virtualization features including Workload Partitions (WPARs) and Live Partition Mobility (LPM). OmniVision now also provides unprecedented support for assessing capacity saturation risks within PowerVM environments.

As UNIX-based virtualization technologies grow richer in functionality, providing more flexibility to rapidly and dynamically implement new applications, these improvements can result in greater complexity and more challenging manageability. With the latest OmniVision enhancements, PowerVM system administrators and capacity planners can confidently exploit WPARs and LPM by relying on OmniVision to provide clear visibility into their impact on virtualized capacity.

With a full understanding of how WPARs utilize capacity, IT professionals can safely deploy new applications while protecting against unforeseen quality of service (QoS) risks. With OmniVision’s new awareness of LPM, PowerVM users can ensure continuous capacity management as workloads shift fluidly from one Power server to another. By monitoring trends in allocated versus consumed capacity, OmniVision enables administrators and planners to proactively recognize where computing resources should be assigned to best meet workload demands.
