Sophos raises more than GBP 3,500 for comic relief with bouncy boxing event

March 2009 by Sophos

IT security and control firm Sophos has raised a grand total of GBP 3,784 for this year’s Comic Relief appeal. The Oxford-based firm held a number of fundraising events at its headquarters in Abingdon today, including ‘Bouncy Boxing’, refereed by Sophos’s senior technology consultant Graham Cluley.

Throughout the day, Sophos employees took to the inflatable boxing ring for sponsored fights, dressed in a variety of fancy dress outfits – all featuring Comic Relief red – with the firm’s CEO, Steve Munford, kitted out as the ultimate boxing champion set to take on spam for real.

"Every day Sophos fights viruses and spam in cyberspace and, for one day only, we gave people the opportunity to fight them for real in aid of Comic Relief,” said Ken Paul, UK HR manager at Sophos. “The CEO’s bout raised a tremendous amount for charity and all of our staff’s activities provided great entertainment during the day – it was great to see everyone get involved!"

In addition to the main boxing event, staff held a bake sale with all proceeds going to Comic Relief, while several members of the Sophos Test team arrived in drag to get their legs waxed raising more than GBP 1,000.
