Shavlik Protect Goes Global with Cloud-based Off-premise Patching, Virtualization Security and Open Reporting

May 2014 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

Shavlik announces the release of Shavlik Protect 9.1.

In addition to agentless patching capabilities for the data center, Protect offers cloud-based agents that can manage agent machines that are outside the console’s network. The agent can be managed both on and off premise as long as an agent machine has internet access. Shavlik’s technology can enable a cloud agent in minutes, allowing administrators to deploy and manage agents outside the network while supporting them as if they are on premise.

Protect 9.1 introduces new enhancements with IPv6 support and extended reporting capability. The enhanced resolution features of Protect enable administrators to discover a machine by FQDN, hostname, IPv4, or IPv6 with great efficiency. Shavlik also extends reporting by providing views for creating custom reports and integrating with third-party reporting solutions. Customers will also see improvements to deployment tracking with broader machine summaries and more in-depth patch details to make deployment of hundreds of patches manageable by exception.

Shavlik continues to build on its rich heritage in virtualization security with technology capable of patching virtual machines, including VMware offline virtual machines and templates as well as online VMware ESXi Hypervisors.

This latest version of Shavlik Protect continues to provide OS and third-party patch management, ITScripts, power management, and antivirus protection, while adding localization in ten new languages, IPv6 support and a 64-bit edition for improved performance and scalability.
