Secucloud Solution Impresses Testers at “Connected Home”

September 2014 by Marc Jacob

With tablets, games consoles and even the TV, consumer electronics have been part of the home network for a long time now. Today, household appliances – such as washing machines, lighting and heating components – are also going online. Although this is very convenient for users, it also attracts an increasing number of cyber-gangsters and spies. If people do not protect their networked devices sufficiently, they are opening the digital door of their home to criminals. To avoid this happening, specialists at the German company secucloud have developed a system that comprehensively protects all the devices in the home with a single, easy to use solution. This concept has also proved itself, as the German IT magazine Connected Home has published the results of its tests on the solution in the latest issue (08/2014) and rates them as “excellent”.

In the magazine’s product test, the editors were impressed by several aspects of the solution. These include the ease of installation of the components and the user-friendly setup of the services using a configuration table. This enables users to adjust all relevant settings themselves with no need for specialized knowledge. The editors therefore gave the solution the highest number of points in the two categories “Usability” and “Design”. The testers found that an additional advantage of the secucloud solution was that it is a purely German development that is subject to the strict data protection laws in that country. The editors’ conclusion was that “Secucloud is developed by professionals and provides permanent all-round security at a low cost.”

Security: simple and affordable

The secucloud security mechanisms, which defend users against cybercrime and spying attempts, are located in a private cloud for each individual customer and protect all the connected devices, whether they belong to private households or companies. As a cloud solution, no software installation or configuration is required and everything – including updates – runs automatically in the background. Whatever their device – desktop computers, smartphones, tablets, smart meters or smart fridges – users benefit from security technologies that, until now, have only been available to large enterprises with plenty of financial muscle. Users also benefit from secucloud’s extremely attractive subscription prices.

“We are honored to have been given this excellent rating by such an authoritative magazine,” says Dennis Monner, founder and CEO of secucloud. “The first important step towards security in home networks is to increase people’s awareness of the dangers that growing connectivity brings with it. PCs and smartphones aren’t the only devices that need protecting, because any connected product can become and open door to threats. We see the positive result of the test as a confirmation that we’re on the right track with our concept – and that motivates us for the future too.”
