Poland’s Exatel Selects Arbor Networks’ Peakflow SP® Platform

November 2013 by Marc Jacob

Arbor Networks, Inc., a provider of DDoS and advanced threat protection solutions for enterprise and service provider networks, today announced that Exatel, the leading telecommunications operator in Poland, has deployed Arbor Networks’ Peakflow® SP platform to launch a managed security service to enterprise customers that delivers distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack protection.

“Enterprise customers are rightly concerned about DDoS attacks as they represent a significant threat to the availability of networks, applications and services,” said Arbor Networks President Colin Doherty. “Exatel is known throughout Poland for offering the highest quality services. They are meeting a real market need by delivering DDoS managed security services to enterprise customers.”

“Our customers are very concerned about the DDoS threat, that is why we are reaching for the best solutions accessible in the world,” said President of Exatel Wojciech Pomyka?a. “The partnership with Arbor Networks, the world’s leader in DDoS protection solutions, will allow us to offer our customers the best solution available. We are glad we have joined the Arbor’s partners in Europe.”

Managed Security Services Powered by Arbor Networks

Arbor Networks presents a unique approach to helping service providers maximize the business value they deliver to enterprise customers with the Peakflow platform, a market-proven solution for providing security to the core and performance to the edge.

Deployed by the many of the world’s leading service providers, Arbor’s Peakflow SP platform includes two main components, Peakflow SP and the Threat Management System (TMS). Peakflow SP combines network-wide anomaly detection and traffic engineering with TMS’s carrier-class threat management capabilities. When Peakflow SP identifies an attack, customer traffic is diverted to the Arbor Threat Management System where it is scrubbed, and network and application-layer attack traffic surgically removed, while legitimate business traffic is passed through to the customer without interrupting services. This powerful combination of visibility and security helps Exatel secure their own network while offering critical revenue generating services to their enterprise customers.

Botnet Protection via ATLAS® Intelligence Feed

Arbor’s ATLAS intelligence feed helps provide unprecedented protection against botnet-fueled DDoS attacks. Over the past five years, Arbor has tracked the rise of botnet-fueled DDoS attacks — in this year’s Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report, botnets were identified by survey respondents as the primary engine fueling DDoS attacks that threaten the availability of data center and cloud-based infrastructures. Arbor has unique visibility into DDoS botnets because of its ATLAS infrastructure, which combines a darknet sensor network with traffic data from more than 275 service provider customers around the world.

This enormous dataset, 70Tbps, enables Arbor’s security researchers to develop a unique, globally-scoped view of malicious traffic traversing backbone networks that form the Internet’s core. This insight is critical, as botnets are constantly changing and updating to thwart detection. The ATLAS Intelligence Feed delivers deep DDoS signatures in real time to help keep the data center edge protected against hundreds of botnet-fueled DDoS attack toolsets and their variants. Moreover, this new feed includes geo-location data and automates the identification of attacks against data center infrastructure and services from known botnets while ensuring that updates for new threats are automatically delivered without software upgrades. Arbor’s researchers are constantly analyzing DDoS botnet attacks—more than 4,300 to date. The ATLAS Intelligence Feed enables customers to directly benefit from the depth and breadth of Arbor’s research team.
