Ordre National des Infirmiers Leads the Way in Online Security with GlobalSign’s EV SSL

June 2011 by Marc Jacob

GlobalSign NV/SA announced that Ordre national des infirmiers (ONI, French Order of Nurses) has chosen to implement GlobalSign’s strongest and most advanced level of SSL Certificate, Extended Validation (EV) SSL, on its customer-facing website www.ordre-infirmiers.fr, to secure its online registrations and payment transaction pages. Regulations in the French healthcare sector are becoming more stringent to ensure that confidential information is protected online and data privacy is complied with at all times. As a result, an increasing number of organisations are choosing to adopt SSL as part of their website security measures, in order to meet emerging regulatory frameworks.

Health organisations with an online presence are increasingly recognising the need to secure websites, VPN networks, webmail and other next generation services, to protect their users’ confidential data in the face of ever-increasing online security threats. The confidentiality laws in force in the French healthcare industry work to protect medical data stored on IT hardware or transmitted electronically. Using the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol helps organisations by providing a secure channel between two machines operating over the Internet or internal network, ensuring all medical and other sensitive data transmitted is encrypted and protected from prying eyes.

Ordre national des infirmiers chose to implement the most advanced type of SSL security, EV SSL, to protect website pages which collect personal information including their registration and payment pages, ensuring that critical customer data and credit card information remains fully secure. End users are alerted to the presence of SSL via the https connection and yellow padlock and in the case of Extended SSL this is reinforced by the address bar glowing green in the latest browsers. As well as protecting customers’ data, the implementation of EV SSL also gives users additional trust and confidence in the ONI organisation, as the full organisation details are displayed in the browser as well as the Issuing Authority.

“The Healthcare industry is a challenging environment with increased pressure on organisations to provide effective security, whilst meeting strict budgets and regulations.” said Paul Tourret, Managing Director, GlobalSign NV/SA. “We are very pleased to see Ordre national des infirmiers lead the way in the French healthcare industry by adopting the most advanced type of SSL Certificate to protect their members’ privacy and we hope to see other organisations follow with this level of security in the very near future.”

By offering a simplified, competitively priced, feature-packed range of SSL Certificates, with free inclusion of Server Gated Cryptography and unlimited server licensing, GlobalSign enables the strongest levels of SSL to be accessible to all sizes of organisation. GlobalSign also offers a range of other dedicated digital certificate solutions highly beneficial to the healthcare sector including DocumentSign Digital IDs for secure exchange of authentic electronic PDF documents, as well as PersonalSign Digital IDs for secure authentication, digitally signing and encrypting emails and signing Microsoft Office documents.
