New IDC MarketScape Provides a Vendor Assessment of the Western European Midmarket Storage Systems Market

May 2012 by IDC

International Data Corporation (IDC) has published a new vendor assessment and market analysis profiling and ranking the leading providers in the Western European midmarket storage systems market. This analysis revealed that several vendors achieved leader status, some in part due to organic growth and laser-focus on the customer, and others due to M&A activities that rounded-out their portfolio offerings to become more competitive. Three were considered major players, while two others were contenders in this market. In the leaders category were Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, HDS, HP, IBM, and NetApp.

"The midmarket storage systems market in Western Europe is highly competitive, as the introduction of additional features and functionalities continues to typify the consistent upgrades of the most successful storage systems vendors," said Donna Taylor, research director, European Storage, Storage Systems and Infrastructure Solutions, Western Europe. "Differentiation is key in a consolidating market space. Therefore, customer-care is paramount before, during, and after the sale."

The IDC MarketScape report utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology that produces a definitive assessment of each vendor’s current market capabilities and strategies for competing in the future.

Additional key findings include:

The midmarket storage systems market remains highly competitive, despite recent M&A activity. In fact, consolidation in the industry has actually provided the customer with more complete storage "solutions" than in the past.

Tier two storage systems vendors provide additional competition in the industry by providing customers with alternatives to the tier one vendors.

Differentiators include a comprehensive portfolio, coupled with customer-centric services and effective sales and marketing.
