Morgan Cole views the LANDesk solution as an investment in its future

October 2011 by Marc Jacob

Law firm Morgan Cole has announced its decision to work with LANDesk Software. LANDesk’s remit is to revolutionise the IT team’s ability to support Morgan Cole’s workers – who span six offices, more than 550 desks and a considerable spread of remote working locations.

Morgan Cole was struggling with an inefficient, disparate and aged IT system that was overseen by a manually- processed service desk – which was in turn staffed by a team of IT professionals whose own skills were hindered by the infrastructure. David Elms, Service Delivery Manager at Morgan Cole, speaks of the challenges, ‘‘We were running numerous back-end systems, requiring manual data entry – operating systems, software and hardware updates were a nightmare, never mind coping with users’ daily challenges. Every three years, we had to bring in external consultants to carry out a desktop refresh, at a cost of £75,000. This year, that need came around again and we decided enough was enough invested in a solution that would not only facilitate all future refreshes (saving us £75,000 each time) but would also transform our day-to-day service desk operations.’’

Looking to maximise its initial investment, Morgan Cole considered numerous market-leading solutions, including Symantec’s Altiris Solution and Dell’s Case product. LANDesk stood out not only for its training and services offerings but also through its systems’ functionality and ease-of-use. Morgan Cole purchased LANDesk Management Suite, LANDesk Service Desk and LANDesk Cloud Services Appliance.

David Elms said of the investment, ‘‘Our main criteria was to find a solution that would grow with us as our business develops, and LANDesk outshone all others in this area. And, as the LANDesk solutions are built from the back-end and accessed through the front-end, they are far more user-friendly and accessible. I wanted to simplify rather than complicate the lives of my team.’’

‘‘Additionally, we now have a solution that allows our mobile workers, who make up a significant proportion of our workforce, to enjoy the same level of support as our office workers,’’ David continued. ‘‘The LANDesk Cloud Services Appliance will be invaluable, giving our employees the flexibility to work efficiently and productively wherever they are, and giving the company vital peace of mind that we can monitor our IT equipment and assist if something goes wrong.’’

LANDesk spokesperson Nigel Seddon, Region North Area Director, said, ‘‘Morgan Cole’s challenges are far from unique and we are confident that we can help to create a more secure, efficient and cost-effective infrastructure for their business.’’

In the future, Morgan Cole hopes to involve LANDesk in its plans to add device encryption solutions and to manage its anti-virus software updates. David concluded, ‘‘We are convinced that the LANDesk solution will revolutionise the IT support systems that keep our offices running on a day-to-day basis. When we need to make changes to our IT environment, I am confident that this new system will support and enable these changes.’’
