LANCOM equips Slovenian schools with wireless LAN
September 2010 by Marc Jacob
As part of a national initiative to modernise education, schools all over Slovenia are currently being equipped with wireless Internet access. The wireless LAN devices used in this project come from German premium network vendor LANCOM Systems. Since the start of the initiative, about 1,000 LANCOM WLAN access points have been installed in more than 50 primary and secondary schools throughout the country. The devices have been sourced through LANCOM’s Slovenian distributor ADVANT.
LANCOM won the project after an extensive certification process that is obligatory for all IT products used in public educational institutions in Slovenia. The decisive points were LANCOM’s highly professional security features, the powerful virtualization options and the fact that all LANCOM access points are suitable for use with Eduroam (www.eduroam.org), an Internet access service that has been designed to facilitate mobile Internet access for school pupils and students roaming around the world.
