Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 shows exceptional detection and repair quality in its first independent test

September 2012 by Kaspersky

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013, the newest version of Kaspersky Lab’s flagship security solution, has returned exceptional results in its first ever independent testing conducted by AV-Test.org in June and July 2012. The software performed significantly better than the industry average in all areas, culminating in a 100 per cent malware detection rate in the key ‘Real World’ section.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 was evaluated on machines running Windows 7 and Windows XP, with the latest updates available at the time of testing. The solution’s efficiency in detecting malware and remediating an infected PC was assessed, along with overall usability and performance. The results were compared with industry averages, based on testing of 28 other security solutions.

In the most significant real-world testing, when all its features were engaged to provide maximum protection, the Kaspersky Lab product returned a perfect score. The industry average was 90.74 per cent in June and 91.11 per cent in July. In the less realistic ‘Zoo Malware’ test, Kaspersky Internet Security detected 99.83 per cent of more than 120,000 malicious files in July, against an industry average 96.84 per cent. Another 100 per cent score was achieved when testing the detection of widespread malware.

In June’s ‘behaviour-based’ test, where proactive protection technologies are evaluated on their own and all others are disabled, Kaspersky Internet Security managed to block 80 per cent of threats (the industry average was 60 per cent). In July, the solution surpassed expectations with another 100 per cent score despite the complexity of the testing. Kaspersky Lab’s traditionally strong results for remediating infected machines were confirmed once again, with a flawless performance in detecting malware infections and disinfecting active components. In the more complex rootkit detection and removal test, yet another 100 per cent result was achieved (against an industry average of 85.71 per cent for detection and 71.43 per cent for removal).

To summarise the results, the experts at AV-Test.org commented that Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 “is a very good all-round product, without any weak spots, but with many strong points which produce results that are far better than the industry average”.

Oleg Ishanov, director of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky Lab, said: “We wanted to deliver first-class protection when we were developing Kaspersky Internet Security 2013. Now we see the first confirmation of our success, from one of the most reputable independent testing labs. Not only did our solution block all widespread threats in life-like scenarios, it successfully removed all active malware from an infected PC, including the most complex rootkits.”
