For IT security and data protection requirements, INEO Engineering & Systems turned to the backup and restoration solution designed by Synerway, a recognized industry expert in the field of preventive backups of digital data.

The acquisition of their first Synerway Appliance in 2005 made for immediate and appreciable gains for INEO E&S: “At long last we no longer had to change the tapes in each server on a daily basis then move them to a safe location”, recalls Daniel Wetzel – IT manager - who, over and above the reduced number of tasks, also appreciates the simplicity and ease of use of the Synerway solution.

In 2009, with the ever-increasing amount of shared data, an additional, higher capacity Appliance was required. INEO E&S renewed their trust in Synerway and selected a DXL 9000 with a capacity of 9 TB. “Our cost analysis, familiarity with the hardware and our positive overall experience encouraged us to stay with Synerway”, says Daniel Wetzel.

Switching from one Appliance to another was very straightforward. No backed up data was transferred. The first Appliance kept its tapes for 6 months and gave us time to perform new backups on the second which included Lotus Notes mail servers, office documents, CAD (Computer-aided design) files, SQL data and client applications.

The data volume currently stands at 1.6 TB. Backed-up data is stored for two months on Appliance disks and externalized each week onto tapes which are stored in a secure location for 6 months. The server room is also physically separate from the Synerway Appliance.

With updated performance and operational conditions, the INEO E&S IT department remain satisfied with the Synerway solution with the pick of the crop being: « …quick-fire restorations from disk of any recently backed up data (no more time-consuming searches through externalized tapes), and, of course, the simplicity of managing this solution».
