ISACA Celebrates 40th Anniversary in 2009

December 2008 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

ISACA, the nonprofit, independent professional association in IT governance, control, security and assurance, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2009.

ISACA has maintained its steady growth by offering an expanding portfolio of globally tested good practices, tools and industry-leading guidance that helps enterprises verify that they are getting the most out of their IT investments, are managing their risks and are in regulatory compliance.

ISACA develops international information systems auditing and control standards, publishes valuable guidance, and educates business and IT professionals worldwide through conferences, training weeks and distance learning. The association’s sought-after certifications have achieved widespread respect among global professionals and enterprises. More than 60,000 individuals have earned the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designation in its 30 years of existence. The Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) designation is only six years old, yet has already certified more than 10,000 professionals. ISACA’s newest credential, Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), was introduced in 2007 and has already become globally recognized.

Through ITGI, ISACA also founded and continually updates the guidance contained in Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT), Val IT and the IT risk framework in development.

Founded in 1969 as the EDP Auditors Association, the organization’s name was changed to Information Systems Audit and Control Association in1994, which was then shortened to ISACA in 2006. Growth has been consistent over the years—from 10,000 members in the early 1990s to more than 86,000 constituents located in more than 160 countries in 2009. ISACA’s work is supported by its more than 180 chapters worldwide.
