IBM Study: Hybrid Clouds Dominate — Enable Companies to Innovate, Exceed Expectations

September 2016 by IBM

IBM is unveiling a new study highlighting the accelerated rate and pace of hybrid cloud adoption. The study, conducted by the IBM Institute for Business Value, found that an overwhelming majority - nearly 80 percent - of C-level executives across 18 different industries state their cloud efforts are coordinated or fully integrated. In 2012, only 34 percent of this same market segment gave an affirmative answer.

They’re also citing cloud as a major driving force when it comes to innovation, helping them to expand into new industries (76%), create new sources of revenue (71%), and create and support new business models (69%).

And while cloud is on the rise, the study also found that nearly half of computing workloads – 45 percent – are expected to stay on-premises. The complexity of operations is demanding a mix of both public platforms and on-premises systems. Hybrid cloud provides a way forward in solving this challenge – giving the flexibility and capacity needed to adapt while moving and extending workloads to public platforms.

Because IBM Cloud offers the strongest hybrid portfolio, we are experiencing more and more clients adopt this model, and can offer perspective as to how this movement is indicative of the world’s cloud transformation.
