In light of the recent threat research by Reversing Labs that the IconBurst NPM software supply chain attack installs malicious NPM modules that are stealing data from forms embedded in mobile applications and websites, please find expert comment by Tzachi Zorenshtain, who advocates that threat management has always been reactive, but in fact should be proactive:
Tzachi Zorenshtain, Head of Software Supply Chain at Open-Source and Developer Security Specialists, Checkmarx explain:
"Vulnerabilities management has always been reactive. We will use a package for years until a vulnerability is found, and then we will rush to fix it.
We can’t accept this delay (MTTD – mean time to detection ) when facing malicious packages with backdoors, trojans, etc. (latest research shows an avg delay of 200 days on NPM from the moment a malicious package is uploaded until it is discovered).
This week, my team’s proactivity detected and stopped an attacker 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 a large-scale attack https://lnkd.in/dp6fuD-c This is the goal we should aspire to."
