Dr. Nathaniel S. Borenstein joins Mimecast as Chief Scientist

Mimecast®, a unified email management company offering cloud-based email security, continuity, policy control and archiving, has today announced the appointment of Dr. Nathaniel S. Borenstein as the company’s Chief Scientist. Dr. Borenstein is the co-creator of the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) email standard and developer of the Andrew Mail System, metamail software and the Safe-Tcl programming language. At Mimecast, he will be responsible for driving the company’s product development and technological innovation, alongside Mimecast CTO and co-founder, Neil Murray.
Previously, Dr. Borenstein worked as an IBM Distinguished Engineer, responsible for research and standards strategy for the Lotus brand, and as a faculty member at the University of Michigan and Carnegie-Mellon University. He also founded two successful Internet cloud service start-ups; First Virtual Holdings, founded in 1994, was the first Internet payment system and was ultimately acquired by Doubleclick: and NetPOS, the first Internet-centric point-of-sale system, was founded in 2000.
