Dell gives 6 good reasons for prioritizing successfull system management

September 2012 by DELL

Administrators are still having to spend too much time on performing manual IT inventories, software distribution, patch management and other maintenance tasks. Centralized system management can enable many of these tasks to run automatically and cut overheads.

IT administrators have a diverse and complex role to perform: setting up desktop PCs or notebooks, distributing new applications, checking security updates, resetting passwords and many other tasks besides. Many of them are still spending too much time performing manual tasks; this is why they need solutions which simplify and optimize these processes. Dell has drawn up a list of the six key reasons for using automated system management.

1. Transparency in IT infrastructure - A centralized system management solution gathers
information on all end devices in existence within a company and the software installed on them, giving companies a clear overview of their IT environment.

2. Efficient management - Automation of software distribution, update installation, backup processes and other tasks makes managing IT infrastructure substantially more efficient.

3. Lower support costs - Remote access to computers reduces the number of callouts for administrators and slashes support costs. For instance, remote access enables end devices to be automatically switched off overnight or at weekends, cutting back on energy costs.

4. Proactive error management - A centralized system management solution continuously monitors all components of a company’s IT infrastructure and gives error management a preventive focus, resulting in high performance and system stability.

5. Overview of applications’ license status - A license check function creates an inventory of all applications used and the licenses available for them, meaning companies can check up on their licenses at any time.

6. Adherence to compliance regulations - Ongoing analysis is a key component of system management. The reports produced enable administrators to check adherence to compliance regulations.

“IT administrators in many companies spend the major part of their time engaged in manual
maintenance and servicing of end devices,” says Eric Vincent, Systems Engineer Dell KACE.

“System management solutions are an indispensable tool for companies dependent on
reliable IT infrastructures. At the same time, increased efficiency is the best basis for
freeing up resources for planning and implementing innovative IT infrastructures and cutting
overheads.”
