Continental automotive giant ransomware attack

Following the latest news that LockBit ransomware gang has claimed responsibility for an attack on automotive giant, Continental, Dr. Darren Williams, CEO of ransomware specialists, Blackfog, offers the following unique insight:
"Companies within the automotive sector are typically large, complex organisations with valuable assets under management, so it comes as no surprise that ransomware groups are targeting them. What is surprising is that multinational organisations are still relying on technologies that are not up to the job of preventing ransomware.
The recent attack on UK auto dealer Pendragon, which had a record breaking ransom demand of £54 million, clearly demonstrates how lucrative this sector could be for cybercriminals. Worryingly, the trend for targeting this industry will continue unless investment is made in newer technology designed to prevent modern threats.
When it comes to ransomware, it’s all about the data, as extortion is the motive. If organisations are using anti data exfiltration technology to prevent cybercriminals from accessing the data, they’ll simply move on to the next victim who isn’t as well protected."
