CA Delivers Eight New and Enhanced Management Solutions

June 2008 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

CA Inc. announced eight new and updated solutions that deliver on CA’s Enterprise IT Management (EITM) vision to enable customers to govern, manage and secure their IT environments.

CA’s new offerings include products for managing compliance and risk across mainframe and distributed computing environments; and products that build on CA’s latest advances in automation to enable enterprise IT organizations to implement consistent management policies and processes across computing platforms and organizational boundaries, streamline essential IT operations, and more readily implement best-practice frameworks such as ITIL and COBIT.

EITM is CA’s strategic vision for changing the way enterprises manage IT. It provides customers with an integrated and modular approach to govern, manage and secure IT environments, while aligning IT to the company’s business imperatives.

Five of the CA solutions announced today improve enterprise-wide risk management by helping organizations address both external regulations and internal performance objectives:

CA GRC Manager r1.5 offers risk management, compliance and audit professionals powerful new capabilities to centrally manage risk and compliance initiatives across the entire enterprise. The new version enables organizations to manage business policies throughout their lifecycle, correlate and analyze key performance and risk indicators, and automate GRC program management to help ensure peak performance.

CA Security Compliance Manager is a new product that improves IT security and helps facilitate compliance with legal, corporate and government regulations. CA Security Compliance Manager is designed to automatically detect security policy or compliance violations, such as inactive or orphan accounts, and initiate remediation. It also streamlines the manual processes around certification and attestation of entitlements. CA Security Compliance Manager integrates with CA Identity Manager, CA-ACF2 and CA-Top Secret, CA GRC Manager and CA Service Desk. It delivers compliance reports that show "who has access to what," "who can do what" and "who approved what"-while simplifying corrective action.

CA Access Control Premium Edition improves its customers’ approach to IT security and compliance by providing cross-platform creation, deployment and management of more specific, role-based access controls for servers. With the support of an automated distribution and endpoint update system, CA Access Control Premium Edition can manage thousands of endpoints from a single server and accommodate large deployments. It also provides aggregated, proactive reporting on entitlements and policy status so that out-of-policy issues can be corrected before they create security or compliance problems.

CA Identity Manager r12 gives organizations unprecedented capabilities to manage identities from creation to modification to removal in both mainframe and distributed environments. The architecture, installation, administration and reporting enhancements made to this release help organizations reduce the complexity and cost of an identity management deployment, while easing compliance initiatives. CA Identity Manager supports integration and customization with specialized systems and applications through a wizard-based identity integration tool.

CA Software Compliance Manager* is a new product that enables organizations to dramatically reduce the risks and costs associated with managing software licenses. Today many businesses rely on manual, unrepeatable processes to manage software licenses. This increases the risk of software audit failure. CA Software Compliance Manager helps establish sustainable and continuous compliance processes that help meet regulatory mandates. It eases audit processes by integrating software asset data from third party and CA inventory tools and then normalizes it for proper license management.

Three of the solutions introduced by CA use automation to align IT with the business, improve efficiency and reduce cost:

CA IT Process Manager* is a new product that strengthens CA’s Data Center Automation solutions by automating IT processes across the data center. It is designed to drive down management costs and increase productivity, while enforcing best practices aimed at improving performance and availability of critical business applications. CA IT Process Manager transforms IT management and the ability to deliver services to the business faster by allowing organizations to design, build, orchestrate, manage and report on workflows that support IT operations processes. Customers can automate and visualize critical IT processes around key IT initiatives including workload automation, data center automation, disaster recovery, consolidation, ITIL/ITSM, provisioning, security and virtualization management by leveraging deep integration to more than 30 IT management solutions from CA, as well as IBM, BMC, HP and Microsoft.

CA Advanced Systems Management r11.2 builds on CA’s commitment to provide customers a vendor- and platform-neutral solution that streamlines the management of physical and virtual server environments. Expanding CA’s support for a broad array of virtualization platforms, CA Advanced Systems Management now integrates with VMware VirtualCenter and supports Sun’s logical domains. It also provides unique insight for virtual and cluster environments through physical-to-virtual mapping of the enterprise server infrastructure. This functionality helps customers continuously assess, manage and optimize virtual system resources to verify service availability.

CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation r11.6 automates management of z/OS® system resources and features a Switch Operations Facility (SOF) that enables mainframe system administrators to quickly visualize, monitor, and manage the health of complex Enterprise Systems Connection and Fiber Connectivity infrastructures. These infrastructures, which connect mainframes to peripheral resources such as storage devices, are critically important for the delivery of IT services, but also are notoriously difficult and time-consuming to manage. With the SOF, IT staff can manage this infrastructure more effectively in less time.
