Buypass Purchases Radware’s ADC-VX Virtualization Solution for Critical ADC Consolidation

January 2011 by Marc Jacob

Radware announced BuypassAS, a leading supplier of user-friendly and secure solutions for electronic identification, electronic signatures and payment, has purchased Radware’s new ADC-VX™, the industry’s first Application Delivery Controller (ADC) hypervisor that runs multiple virtual ADC instances on Radware’s dedicated OnDemand Switch platform.

Buypass offers electronic IDs that simplifies and provides secure access to Buypass merchants’ Internet-services. Today, around two million personal Buypass IDs have been issued; yielding an approximate 100,000 transactions per day with 3,000 concurrent users during peak time. Buypass selected Radware’s ADC-VX to ensure performance predictability of its critical web applications, including cardholder registration and card lifecycle management (for both online and mobile domains), SSL certificates for ordering and management, merchant management, and other key applications as well as infrastructure consolidation,

After conducting a thorough, multi-month technical evaluation, Buypass chose Radware’s ADC-VX solution for its new virtualization capabilities, which includes complete fault isolation, network isolation and management isolation between its virtual ADC instances. This isolation architecture is similar to dedicated physical ADC devices, and eliminates the risks involved with the consolidation process. It also enables: significant CAPEX savings as less hardware is required; OPEX savings in terms of power, cooling, and footprint; reduced annual service costs, and new service facilitation. In addition, Buypass was impressed with Radware’s ADC-VX ADC security isolation capabilities – because as a trusted third party delivering personal electronic ID solutions - securing transactions are at the heart of its business.

“We were looking to upgrade and consolidate our ADC hardware devices without compromising resiliency or performance power of our ADC services,” said Sverre Sandernes, Chief Technology Officer at Buypass. “We have complete confidence in Radware’s technology and team, and recognize that its ADC-VX virtualization solutions would enable us to gain significant hardware savings, lower operational expenses and shorten the deployment time of delivering new applications and services to our customers.”

Buypass chose ADC-VXs for the Radware Alteon 5412 high availability solution at two different sites. The 5412 will serve IT services at both sites, and based on dynamic routing information, one site has been set-up to be redundant for the other.

“As a service provider delivering identity management as a service, Buypass required a secure, high availability solution that would deliver more with less hardware to enable them to bring new personal electronic ID applications and services to market faster,” said Andreas Nordenadler, Sales Manager Scandinavia, Radware. “Our ADC-VX was the right virtualized application delivery solution for Buypass – as it delivers business agility, capacity flexibility and most importantly, guaranteed continuity of service, as each virtual ADC instance has a dedicated resource mechanism for its operation.”

Radware’s ADC-VX hypervisor is part of its Virtual Application Delivery Infrastructure – (VADI™) strategy, which focuses on bringing full agility and efficiency of virtualization to application delivery solutions. VADI is an architecture which transforms computing resources, as well as application delivery and virtualization services into one integrated, agile and scalable Application Delivery Virtualization Infrastructure.
