Arbor Networks: Government launching a new cyber-security certification
June 2014 by Arbor Networks
Following the news of the Government launching a new cyber-security certification, please see below comments from Darren Anstee, director of solutions architects at Arbor Networks:
Anything that raises threat awareness and provides guidance around low-cost, simple ways in which cyber-threats can be thwarted is a good thing. Targeted threats will still likely get through, unless organisations go beyond these recommendations, but more opportunistic breaches may be reduced. The scheme will (hopefully) drive better practice into organisations and accreditation should help here as competing businesses may differentiate on this, which will help to drive the need for accreditation.
Recent research by the Economist Intelligence Unit and Arbor Networks found that only 17 percent of businesses globally are fully prepared for an online security incident. Any organisation can be a target of a cyber-attack, and schemes such as this are vital in helping organisations to understand security risks so that they can minimise their exposure.
