All IGEL thin and zero clients now offer Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded

March 2014 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

IGEL Technology is integrating Imprivata OneSign® ProveID Embedded into all its x86-based thin and zero clients with the recently released firmware updates 4.13.100 and 5.02.100. The solution offers users in the health care sector secure clinical authentication with No Click Access® within virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI).

With the solution directly integrated into the firmware of the IGEL clients, Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded allows high-performance, pre-installed user authentication for rapid, secure access to clinical applications and critical patient information. In order to make the functions of the security solution available to as many users as possible, IGEL has also integrated support for IGEL Linux Version 4, enabling existing customers to benefit. IGEL made available Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded for its System-on-a-Chip thin client back in August last year. Thanks to the firmware updates, all IGEL thin and zero clients with the Linux operating system now allow the use of Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded as an out-of-the-box solution. However, users of IGEL thin clients with Windows Embedded can also install the software on each client or conveniently roll it out via the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS).

Setting up Imprivata OneSign ProveID Embedded is a straightforward, intuitive process. Simply enter the Imprivata Single Sign-On URL on the IGEL thin client and all settings are then automatically loaded from the Imprivata Appliance. From this point onwards, the device will automatically boot into appliance mode and only allow Imprivata ProveID users to access their desktop.

A connection is established with Citrix XenDesktop or VMware Horizon View, depending on the particular VDI environment. In addition, a check as to whether a new client is available is carried out after switching on the device. If this is the case, the client is automatically recognized and installed.
