Airbus Defence and Space to take part in 2016 Defnet exercise

March 2016 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

Airbus Defence and Space’s CyberSecurity teams are to take part in the 2016 Defnet exercise to be held on 15-25 March at the military camp of Mailly-le-Camp. During this exercise, the defensive cyber warfare system (MTLID) developed by Airbus Defence and Space is to be deployed to prevent cyber attacks. This system will allow the cyber defence operational chain and in particular land forces personnel to identify and retrieve contextual information about each of these cyber attacks, such as their origin, target, criticality and impact, and then combat them with a suitable response plan.

With the operational deployment of the MTLID system during the Defnet exercise, the French Armed Forces will assess under live conditions how well it is suited to their need to secure French operational information and communication systems.

The MTLID system contributes to protecting the information networks of French defence systems against cyber attacks during peacetime and in times of crisis. It has monitoring, warning detection and response capabilities provided by a cyber attack supervision and control system. This system allows information to be centralised and each participant involved to be alerted so as to be able to respond to threats as soon as possible.

The MTLID contract signed with the French defence procurement agency (Direction générale de l’armement) covers all the stages of a defensive cyber warfare project from the design stage to deployment together with staff training, security and through-life support.
