AdaptiveMobile reveals new borderless threats and leading regulator PhonepayPlus announces initiative to tackle malware at Mobile Security Forum

New global compound threats, combining multiple attack vectors such as SMS and malware, will be unveiled by AdaptiveMobile at this year’s Mobile Security Forum at Mobile World Congress. AdaptiveMobile will be hosting a session that will bring together a panel of industry experts to discuss how to work together to tackle these threats.

AdaptiveMobile’s Chief Operating Officer, Gareth Maclachlan will be hosting the session which will take place at 11.45am on Monday 25th February, Hall 8.0 Theatre District, Theatre A. As part of the discussions Paul Whiteing, Chief Executive of leading telecom regulator, PhonepayPlus will also be announcing a new initiative with GSMA and other industry bodies to develop and test incident management processes for dealing with malware attacks. The workshop for invited telecoms and security representatives, to be facilitated by Copper Horse Solutions, will focus on processes for incident handling, to ensure rapid detection and takedown of premium SMS mobile malware attacks.

Other experts joining Gareth and Paul on the panel will include:

· Chris White, Director Product Management at Syniverse

· Omar Khawaja, Head of Product Marketing, Security Solutions at Verizon

· Richard Midgett, Managing Director, Wireless Business at PCCW

· Ciaran Bradley, VP of Handset Security at AdaptiveMobile

“In an age where cross-border, multi-bearer threats combining SMS and malware are an everyday occurrence, security has never been more important,” said Gareth Maclachlan, COO of AdaptiveMobile.” The Mobile Security Forum at MWC is a great opportunity for us to reveal the results from our latest Global Security Insights in Mobile report highlighting the scale of the issue and to share ideas and discuss measures we can put in place to combat these increasingly sophisticated threats.”

“PhonepayPlus is proactively tackling mobile malware which takes money from consumers by illegitimate use of premium SMS shortcodes,” said Paul Whiteing Chief Executive at PhonepayPlus. “Phonepayplus is the only telecoms regulator to have taken action against premium SMS mobile malware and we’re looking forward to discussing the measures we’re putting in place with the industry at MWC.”

Paul will be revealing how PhonepayPlus is developing effective partnerships with stakeholders, processes for intelligence-gathering, and enforcement action at this year’s forum. He will also be announcing a scenario workshop to be hosted by PhonepayPlus to test different malware attack scenarios with the GSMA, mobile networks, law enforcement agencies and security experts.
