WipeDrive, a secure and certified hard drive erasing tool, now available for EMEA countries

February 2012 by Marc Jacob

The American software editor WhiteCanyon, leading specialist of security software providing permanent deletion technology, is now expanding its WipeDrive solution to EMEA countries.

Pefectly adapted to the requirements of companies and organizations regarding data protection, WipeDrive is a user-friendly and cost-effective comprehensive solution. Certified EAL4+ by the Common Criteria, WipeDrive has been used to erase hard drive data on over 25 million hard drives in the world.

Data protection - a requirement for companies and organizations IT Systems security and data protection are major stakes for the growth and viability of companies and organizations. Any security breach might lead to severe consequences, for which the company executives would be held liable. (Article 226-17 of the French penal code).

However, even though today a large number of companies are taking more and more advanced measures to secure their IT equipment, less than 20% of them undertake secure and certified permanent deletion on their workstations, before discarding them from the operating environment.

Many people believe the best way to erase a hard drive is by formatting it. But, contrary to popular belief, formatting the hard drive does not erase hard drive data. It is precisely to meet this need, that White Canyon developed the WipeDrive software suite. A solution that enables you to permanently and industrially erase all information on hard drives. Moreover, WipeDrive guarantees the process by providing of a certificate that meets all international standards for security.

WipeDrive - a secure and certified comprehensive data deletion solution Practical, WipeDrive is operable on all kinds of hardware (PCs, laptops, servers and storage bays), on all kinds of hard drives (DEI, SATA, eSATA, SCSI, SAS, USB2/3, Channel Fiber, USB and Firewire), and all types of processors (x86, Power PC, SPARC and HP-RISC platform).

Quick and cost-efficient, WipeDrive allows you to process 16 hard drives per server or storage bay, and 200 workstations on the network, all at the same time. Easy to operate, WipeDrive can be run via three different operating processes:

- PXE network boot mode, to process a large volume of units on the same location. No CD to insert, neither screen, nor mouse, nor keyboard to connect, the process is carried out via the network interface card. This mode saves times and reduces time and handling.

- EXE mode, the most appropriate method when multiple workstations are connected to the same network. This option enables you to erase systems remotely.

- Cloud mode, via WhiteCanyon’s Wipe Remove web interface. This dematerialized service allows the administrator to run the software either locally or by remote control. Secure, WipeDrive integrates the Secure Erase command, required by the U.S. Department of Defense (US DoD 52220.22–M). The software also provides secure HPA and DCO areas deletion and executes an overwriting of the remapped hard drive’s sectors. A detailed deletion report is also provided for each deletion.

Certified, Wipe Drive is approved by numerous international standards, NIAP, HIPAA, GLB, DoD 5220.22-M, Sarbannes-Oxley, Facta Standards… Furthermore, WipeDrive is the only data deletion software in the world to be certified by the prestigious EAL4+ certification, awarded by the Common Criteria. This acknowledged international standard (ISO/IEC 15408) is recognized in 26 countries, including France and the US.

Selective deletion, furthermore thanks to the SystemSaver software, included in the WipeDrive software suite that is dedicated to professionals, it is possible to erase hard drive data while leaving the operating system, programs and drivers intact. A particular useful option when the equipment to be erased is intended to remain in the company for later use, or to be given to charity.

Business development in the EMEA

WipeDrive software suites dedicated to professionals are segmented in two offers: WipeDrive Enterprise (100 licenses or more) for key accounts and organizations; and Wipe Drive Pro (up to 20 licenses) for SMEs. Prices vary from 3 to 6 Euros per license. The same license is useable on all kinds of hardware (PCs, laptops, servers and storage bays). EMEA distribution is managed by a dedicated department, WhiteCanyon EMEA, located in Paris and directed by Éric Dixsaut, former Country Manager for International Sales Regions at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
