Vigil@nce - pfSense: multiple Cross Site Scripting and Cross Site Request Forgery in the administration web interface

April 2017 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can trigger "Cross Site Scripting" of inject HTTP
commands in the administration interface of pfSense, in order to
run JavaScript code or inject administrative commands in the
context of the web site.

Impacted products: pfSense.

Severity: 2/4.

Creation date: 21/02/2017.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The pfSense product includes a Web interface for administration
purpose.

However, it does not always filter received data before inserting
them in generated HTML documents; and it does not always check the
right sequencing of HTTP requests before accepting a sensitive
command.

An attacker can therefore trigger "Cross Site Scripting" of inject
HTTP commands in the administration interface of pfSense, in order
to run JavaScript code or inject administrative commands in the
context of the web site.
