SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can use, for example from Internet Explorer, a special
command line on Windows, in order to run some programs, such as
Notepad or Office.
Impacted products: Windows 10, Windows 2008 R0, Windows 2008 R2,
Microsoft Windows 2012, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows
Vista.
Severity: 2/4.
Creation date: 11/08/2015.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The Excel, Notepad, PowerPoint, Visio and Word products can be
legitimately called from the command line.
However, a malformed command line can also run these programs.
This command line can for example be called from the EPM (Enhanced
Protection Mode) mode of Internet Explorer.
An attacker can therefore use, for example from Internet Explorer,
a special command line on Windows, in order to run some programs,
such as Notepad or Office.
